PODCASTS
DUCKS ON AIR AFRICA
In 2021, during my first year as a communication and media studies Ph.D. student at the University of Oregon, I joined hands with fellow Ph.D. student Emmanuel Maduneme to start a radio program on KWVA student radio, which we named “DUCKS ON AIR AFRICA.” the program, which also run as a podcast, explored Africa through the eyes of African students and UO community members that had an interest in Africa.
My job in this project was to pitch story ideas, write scripts, and then present the news segment of the podcast. We discussed several topics ranging from arts, culture, politics, misconceptions about Africa, and everything in between, until our busy schedules made it difficult for us to continue.
Here are some of our productions.
In 2019, at the end of my Knight Wallace Journalism Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I returned to my newsroom at the New Vision printing and publishing company limited and founded the first podcast platform for the company. This podcast named “The New Vision Podcast” was the company’s first attempt at leveraging online audio platforms as part of our digital strategy. I was challenged by the editor-in-chief, Barbara Kaija to work with radio journalist Max Adii to get this project off the ground. I supervised the ideation process (generating story ideas), pitching, assigning of stories, writing the scripts and oversaw the production of the first 20 or so episodes before COVID sent us into lockdown. We covered human interest, health, politics, education and several issues on COVID as the pandemic spread. Here are some of our works.
